Mondelez makes a lot of pre-packaged foods that you know and love, and you’ve probably reached for some of them while in the throes of the munchies. And now Mondelez CEO Dirk Van de Put says they could soon be getting into the marijuana game themselves by introducing some cannabis-infused goodies.

“Yes, we’re getting ready, but we obviously want to stay within what is legal and play it the right way,” Van de Put told CNBC.

There are a couple of caveats to this story however. First, Van de Put said the products they ultimately release won’t be the kind of weed-cookies that get you high. Instead, Mondelez plans on making snacks infused with the non-intoxicating cannabis compound CBD, which has become an increasingly trendy wellness product in recent months due to its ability to help people unwind without the high typically associated with cannabis.

Van de Put also said that consumers should not expect weed-infused versions of their signature snacks either. Instead, the company plans to introduce new product lines in order to keep the family-friendly reputation of their current products intact. That means no CBD Oreos or Fuzzy Peaches for you just yet.

In fact, you shouldn’t expect to see cannabis-infused anything from Mondelez just yet. That’s because the FDA has yet to clear CBD as a safe food additive.

“The space is not clear,” Van de Put said. “It’s a bit clearer in non-food products. In food products, I’m hoping that the FDA will bring some clarity in the coming months.”

This announcement from Mondelez comes as a number of other mainstream food and beverage makers have signalled interest in entering the CBD market.
