Bill To Improve Transparency In Cannabis Industry Passes Assembly

Dispensary sign

The Nevada Assembly unanimously passed a bill to make public the names of marijuana company owners.

KNPR reported (see below) the bill will return to the state Senate, which will need to approve an amendment before it can head to the desk of Gov. Steve Sisolak, who is expected to sign it into law.

The issue came to light at the end of 2018, when the state awarded most of the 61 provisional recreational marijuana licenses to only a few applicants without disclosing the Senate Bill 32 would change existing law to make public the names of marijuana business owners and their companies as well as license applicants.

A bill that would make the names of marijuana business owners public in Nevada, cleared the state Assembly Tuesday.

The move is aimed at greater transparency in the licensing and regulation process.

An amendment to SB32, brought by the Department of Taxation, which regulates marijuana in Nevada, would make the names of marijuana business owners public, as well as the business names, and those who apply for the licenses.

The Senate will need to approve an amendment, and then the bill heads to Governor Sisolak, who is expected to sign it.
