New Research: THC and CBD Helpful In Treatment of Dementia

A new study finds that tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are effectual at mitigating symptoms of dementia.

The report, published in the U.S. National Library of Medicine – National Institutes of Health, shows that marijuana’s two primary cannabinoids provide hope and help for those suffering from dementia.

While our federal government has spent millions of dollars in an attempt to demonize marijuana and its many cannabinoids through convoluted studies, ironically, the fed’s unrelenting quest to unearth the plant’s hidden harm has instead exposed it’s medicinal value to the world.

The CBD Cannabinoid

Cannabidiol (CBD) may hold the most promise for many serious conditions. CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that is believed to reduce the psychoactive effects of THC. Smokers of cannabis with a higher CBD/THC ratio are less likely to experience anxiety. CBD may also inhibit cancer cell growth.

The THC Cannabinoid

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the most abundant and widely known cannabinoid in cannabis. THC is the cannabinoid responsible for the primary psychoactive effects associated with cannabis use. The compound is a mild analgesic, and cellular research has shown the compound has antioxidant activity. THC is believed to interact with parts of the brain generally controlled by the endogenous cannabinoid neurotransmitter anandamide.
